1. Consistent Application of Guidelines and Result Codes 2. Consistent Treatment of Applications for Withdrawal Without Academic Penalty

1. Guidelines for Supplementary exams, terminating and faculty passes

A report and recommendation on the introduction of University-wide guidelines for the award of supplementary examinations, terminating passes and faculty passes was provided to the September 2003 meeting of the University Teaching & Learning Committee. The Committee received the report, noting that the proposals would be discussed in depth at an October meeting of the associate deans and faculty executive officers, convened by the Academic Registrar.

Following this meeting and further consultations with faculties consolidated guidelines for supplementary examinations, terminating passes and faculty passes have been developed, for application in those faculties that choose to use these assessment mechanisms and result grades for dealing with cases of marginal performance in a unit.

A copy of the guidelines is attached.

2. Consistent treatment of applications for withdrawal without academic penalty

The Associate Deans (Teaching & Learning) of all faculties support the introduction of consistent processes for dealing with applications for withdrawal without academic penalty after the relevant census date. Applications must be in writing. A pro forma has been developed and will be made available to Student Administration, faculty and school offices. While not mandatory – faculties may accept other suitable written documentation from a student – the pro forma outlines the information and documentary evidence to be provided by a student and the various steps for consideration of the application.

Guidelines have been developed for these procedures and will be submitted to the first meeting of the Teaching & Learning Committee in 2004 for consideration and approval. A copy of the guidelines and the pro forma is attached.
