Morris Miller Prize in Australian Literature

 

Rule No. 2

Mr James Burnet Forbes Young has given $5000 to the University. Mr Forbes Young has requested that the gift be used to endow a prize in Australian Literature. The Council of the University has agreed to establish a prize. The terms of the prize are set out in these rules.

Rules

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

         

1

The sum of $5000, together with any interest from time to time, forms the endowment of a prize to be called the Morris Miller Prize in Australian Literature.

The prize will be awarded annually to the student who presents the best honours long essay in an area relevant to Australian Literature.

A selection committee comprising the Head of the School of English and European Languages and Literatures and 2 other members elected by and from the academic staff of the school will award the prize.

   
4 All students completing the honours program in English within the schedule set by the faculty are eligible for the prize, provided Australian Literature is a major component of their study.
   
5 The selection committee may decide in any year to share the prize between 2 or more students, or not to award the prize if there is no essay of sufficient merit.
   
6 The Scholarships Management Committee will set the annual value of the award from time to time, having regard to the income from the endowment.
